For realistic settings, I would argue that mindsets can’t get all that alien. Many of our values come from us being fundamentally social creatures (murder and selfishness are bad because the harm the group as a whole, unless they happen to people outside our group), and some amount of social interaction would be required for any sapient species, as for technology to progress, you need one individual teaching another so individuals don’t need to start from scratch.

Good summary, great analysis and I actually mirror your opinions on this one - although, having just read the novel, I can nitpick the fact that you got the main character's name wrong - it's Daniel Bruks, not David. Cheers!

That radiation room is the only point in the game where I think you can get softlocked. I somehow missed virtually all the augmentations and if I didn't have spare points for environmental training I wouldn't have been able to get past it. The suit alone isn't enough to survive even at full health

13:40 I'll be honest if a guy smacked my ass with a blackjack I'd probably be -more- awake, but I can believe someone would luck out one day and just realize there's a chance they get left alone if they pretend it K.O.ed them and don't talk about it.

With the exception of humans dwarves and elves i have actually decided to completely forgo the humanoid look for the rest of the peoples of my project making them completely unrelated animals that just so happen to have the same intelligence and abilities as humans. The only limit i have placed on myself for there design (other than making reasonable biological sense) is that they must have a method of handling objects in a manner similar to our hands

Dark Sun did a WONDERFUL job of this for Dungeons and Dragons. The standard fantasy races felt UTTERLY unique and alien, while still having enough familiarity to rope you in. PS: Enough of the Tumblr weirdos have gotten into D&D that animal races have gotten stale. It's sort of been done to death at this point.

You do not have to believe because you can not read whole knowledge, science is a system that grinds through reality with math and observation. There is a difference between reading a sentence from bible and the sentence from book about physics. Hawking did not invent black holes and told us how they behave. Imagine if he did that... and there would be no method of knowing if he is right. ( majority of scientists did not believed (sic!) for 50 years in the existence of black holes though) This is for me the crucial point. You do not believe in facts, observed and studied. You do believe in religious claims... I am not talking about the methods of acquiring the knowledge obviously. And the string holding uber intelligent players I like it. It is a scifi book not a sociological study about apes. Monte Christo was perfectly realizing his plan and he was not a Vampire with post human intelligence :) What if he would have been ?:) It is a convention, Sauron was evil badass and lost its ring so yeah, perfect Vampires and post humans for the win :)

Great video. I really disliked Lady of the Lake and thought it was the best written but also weakest book in terms of story. I’m glad so many others enjoyed it though and am envious. For me, I’ll just pretend it didn’t happen, the series was great up until this point. Like you said, mythology is about the stories we tell each other, and this is the story I tell myself, that Sapkowski never wrote a 5th book.

I don't think your interpretation of Lucifer is correct. One thing I like about this movie is that there is no rebel lightbringer Lucifer. Corso doesn't know what is going on, and we don't know what is going on. The Girl has to save him and help him, he asks, who are you? Who are you working for? Is this the end? I believe Corso dies at the end, but death is not the end. However, nobody knows what happens in the castle. There is a figure waiting for him in one of the windows.

I once had an idea of a dark planet that, despite its distance from its star, it was kept warm by a very thick greenhouse atmosphere. Due to the darkness it would cause more animals to be ambush predators because it is near impossible to actively hunt prey in darkness. Plants would use methods of chemosynthesis, or other non-light based ways to produce energy.

A week ago I have discovered Blindsight, I am now in the middle of Echo. BS has this fascinating atmosphere, reminiscent, not by mistake I gather, to The Thing film. I was glad that the book didn't turned out to be flat. It has layers, mental chess in a way. It is a joy to read for the first time. Sometimes poetic language mixed with Lem like technical jargon and overall freshness of well grounded ideas that are not that far away from today science makes this book a pleasure to read. It is not a quantum something because nowadays everyone do quantum. Freshness comes from well thought and well implemented and mixed ideas that are "currently" circulating in the technical press. And the rock vampire riff on the somewhat hackneyed or no longer containing much of originality first contact theme is such a delicious cherry on the spaceship ;) p.s. Prometheus should heve been written as Blindsight As much as I try to like Prom, :* Peter Weyland... the crew is a joke...spot on there.

This was a great analysis of the film and what you said is what I totally what have been saying about this film I am honestly impressed by Mr Wilmott’s use of history and how he brings up forgotten things that also unfortunately yes these terrible things were actually real I notice that he used actual JFK speeches the “Half Slave Half Free” one which he actually gave in the 1960 Presidential debate but he was really talking about the western world being enslaved by the Soviet Union Also it seems he makes Lincoln live to be 95 years old in the 1900s which was around the time cameras start to be able to capture sound so it would make sense to have him this interview of a old Lincoln in Canada Also the idea of Lincoln escaping to Canada is based on the old story of Jefferson Davis being captured in a woman’s dress trying to escape the South And lastly there actually was a show called “Beulah” which the film shows us actual clips from the show What is interesting about Beulah is it was quite historic as it was the first ever sitcom to star a Female African American actress
